B.U.B: News
Long time no hear - May 8, 2008
Wow, sorry to have been off the radar for so long. BUB has been on an unofficial hiatus for the past couple months. One of us is getting married this month, one of us just started a new job, and we've all been busy catching up on life while still spending time at the studio working on the new album. We're glad to have had a bit of a breather of sorts, but look out, because BUB is planning a roaring comeback this summer. We'd like to play out as much as possible and expand our geographic range. Let us know if you have or know of a cool place to play - we'll be there. Looking forward to an inspired summer of good times and great music....
See you out there
mad sandwiches - December 10, 2007
Just got back from another trip to the great state of New Jersey. the radio performance has been rescheduled for a later date TBA. Sorry if any of you went looking and couldn't find us. We will let you know as soon as we get that date. Thank you Jason for hooking us up with a place to crash, your hospitality rocks man. I especially like the hovercraft in your driveway. We are officially starting the new album today. We are playing a lot of the new stuff already, so come on out and let us know what you think. Don't hold your breath though. This one might take a while. We will be at Charlotte's in Federal Hill this friday, and if you're coming into town for the holiday's, swing down to Annapolis and check us out with the Cheaters on the 28th. Have a happy Christmas.
beautiful 295 - October 22, 2007
Riding hot: then hotter: then even hotter. The Brass Uncle Band broke down. Not the water-pump. Not the thermostat. Just a hose. Then the thermostat. Thanks to Pep Boys for taking all day, and charging us too much. Just doing your job. Thanks to enterprise for bringing us a minivan when we asked for a 15-seater. Serious thanks to Joe Bonamassa's cousin, who saved our ass from canceling the show and turning around. Another serious thanks to Pat Walker, who saved our asses from sleeping on the mean streets of Asbury Park, which do rival a few Baltimore neighborhoods. We'll see you at the waterfront. I got a new guitar.
John
recently at the 8x10.... - September 6, 2007
The Cheaters tore it up as always. Lucid gave everyone a lesson in guitar tone. Duke went through a record number of drum sticks. John made sure to sing some verses twice. Chas's voice cracked once and we got it on tape. Thanks to the sound for a great bootleg of the night, and thanks to all who came to share the night. We're headed up to New York city for a show at the Ace of Clubs. the band van will be worming its way up to the Big Apple. Everyone say a little prayer for the Econoline. Sometimes it needs the attention.
the waterfront hotel - July 29, 2007
We know it from the television series Homicide. We had a great time last Wednesday with everyone who came out. Soon the BUB will be gigging at the Waterfront on the weekends, so we can all stay out a little later. Thanks again to everyone who picked up a copy of the album, and who signed up for the mailer. We'll be sure to let you know where and when we'll be where we are. The 8x10 is coming up. This show is gonna be a real treat. The Cheaters, and Canada's Superstack. This is an all ages show, so bring the kiddies. Tickets are available beforehand. If you need any more, just shoot us an email. Keep up all the support everyone. Good things coming soon.
the federal house smokes - June 16, 2007
Thanks to the grilled lincolns for having us down to the federal house at the Annapolis docks. It was a last minute set-up, so sorry most of you folks didn't hear about it sooner. The G=Linx had a special guest, Jeremy Scott Ragsdale on the keys, as well as a drunken performance by Naptown's own Cheaters. There were a couple of brilliant moments. We're gonna do it again soon. And we'll be sure to let you all know about it this time.
B.U.B hits the charts - May 8, 2007
Thanks to the staff and listeners at M3 Radio for putting the unsigned music on the air, and getting the Brass Uncle Band into the #25 spot last week. When you stop by M3 Radio, take note of the autographed B.U.B photo.(yah!) We are currently finishing up the tunes for the next record, and can't wait to get some more music to you. In the meantime, we'll see you at the shows. Oh yeah... buy our record.
Coors Light Tall Boys - May 3, 2007
Coors Light tall boys are delicious. Fact.
Full Moon Saloon Days - April 7, 2007
For those who haven't heard yet, the Brass Uncle Band is gonna be spending some wednesdays down at the Full Moon Saloon. This has long been Baltimore's "home of the blues." In the past, they have been graced with the likes of Pine Top Perkins, Carl Filipiak, Hurricane Hopkins, Sonny Rhodes, Automatic Slim, Big Jack Johnson, and even Bruce Willis; (A.K.A. John McClain: Jimmy "the Tulip" Tudeski: Eddie "the Hudson Hawk" Hawkins) to name a few. The Full Moon has also earned its film cred as a local in the legendary TV drama "Homicide." The Brass Uncle Band is more than excited about its new residency at this contemporary legend. We're having a fucking blast down there, and we hope you have a chance to swing by. Thanks again to everybody for supporting Roots-Rock in "the Greatest City in America." Believe bitch
highways and airwaves - April 3, 2007
Just got back from the Pattenburg in NJ. A couple of miles on the band van that we can't wait to do again. Next time through, we're gonna be stopping off in Allentown for a full weekend warrior tour. No B.U.B. trip out-of-town goes without a late night rueben sandwich, and this one was no exception. Nothing like a clover leaf/ roadside diner at 3:oo am to bring out the wierd.
B.U.B is also pleased to announce our arrival onto airwaves. Have a listen on Taproot Radio from North Carolina, Moozikoo radio out of Nashville, and on WDIY NPR Bethlehem, and WMUH, Allentown Pennsylvania. Thanks to the independent radio support. Love it when the Program Director and DJ's are thinking for themselves.
We'll keep you posted as our tour dates and radio spots come along. thanks again to everyone for another damn fine night. See you around Mobtown.
good time guido's - March 19, 2007
The back room at Guido's bar in Fredereck is a fine destination. The front bar remained packed all night. Thanks to everyone who filtered back to check us out. We had a great time. Seems like there are alot of musicians in that area, and we can't wait to work that town some more. Hope everyone had as much fun as we did. Always love it when a Brass Uncle set turns into a dance party. Jeff runs a tight ship over there where it's all about the beer. See you folks soon. thanks again.
yes we do - March 10, 2007
I had a musician friend tell me he wished he still got excited for every show like he used to when he was younger. If my band had as many gigs as his band, I could probably understand some of that. But I don't, and neither does Chas or Duke. I know, cause I asked. I am still excited about every gig. Its easy to be. No matter how many times we play the same bar for crap money and a mediocre turn-out, I am thrilled. It must be a nightmare to be getting gigs you don't want to play. Everyone who has been in a working band knows that playing music is only 50% of it at most. Everything else is a giant pain in the ass. My sentiments.... stay thrilled. Yeah, there are hundreds of thousands of bands for every guitar manufactured (false statistic), but for every gig, there are a hundred thousand and two (another fake stat.) bands that would kill for that slot in that crap bar with that shit P.A. and that outrageous tab and those three speeding tickets on the way home from Philly at 4am when you need to be rested and at work by 8.
We have a show in Frederick on St. Paddy's Day. I'm good to go.
CD Release - Thanks - February 20, 2007
We had a fantastic night. Thanks to everyone for coming out to the show. It couldn't have been more fun. We promise to keep you informed of our schedule. Be on the lookout for more shows, as well as some new music making its way into the set. Spread the good word. Thanks
The Pattenburg - February 15, 2007
Just got back from lovely western New Jersey where we were received with open arms. Duke was batting his eyelashes all night, and Chas got us a great place to crash. CD release is this week and we're looking forward to seeing everyone together and putting on the show of your lives.
December 28, 2006
The album has a name. Three Mobtown Gallons, because that's all we could fit into one record. Thanks to John Ginty, B.J. Lazarus, and everyone else that helped to make our debut album a BUB masterpiece. In case anyone didn't already know, Chris Bentley at the Bunker studio was the engineer on the project. He coproduced the album, and got us to do more than we knew we could. His resume is serious. Should you be looking to record, this where to go. Congratulations to Chris on a job well done on the Bridge's new album as well. It made #33 on WTMD's album of the year countdown, and was also featured as the album of the month for December. Our Cd release Party is at the Red House Tavern in Canton on Feb. 17th. We will See you there. BUB loves you too.
November 10, 2006
We just got back from Philly. It was a great show. The Grimace Federation is a killer act to witness. Two drum kits set up face to face, a vibraphone, two guitars, and a bass. Check em out. We're gonna be up at the East End tonight. Looking forward to visiting the Delaware crowd. See you there, or see you soon. And if you're feeling charitable, give a republican a job. Peace
September 13, 2006
Good news from Philly. The Brass Uncle Band has been invited to play at the after party for the World Cafe's hurricane Katrina benefit. It will be headlined by New Orlean's own Subdudes. We couldn't be more excited about the chance to raise some bucks and awareness for all that still needs to be done down there. So come on up to Philly in November and catch a great show for a better cause.
Dazed and pleased - July 22, 2006
It has been a great week for the Brass. Thank you to the many, many people that made it out to the 8x10, as well as to the Cheaters and Eighty 1 South. Good rock does live in Baltimore. Our quest to bring our music to the world continues for the next few weeks in Newark, Delaware and Washington DC. We're gonna spread the music out like microwaved cream cheese on a french toast. And then I'll tell you all how that works. Be good to all your brothers and sisters, cause there's a whole lotta war right now.
Live tales - June 24, 2006
Not since Jimmy Flame and the Sexxxy Boys has the BUB seen such an act as we did this week at Staccato's lounge in Adams Morgan. Naked and Shameless made their way to Capital City from Chicago, and wowed us with a leather clad performance that included both a beer chugging contest, championed by yours truly, as well as a fantastic rendition of Elvis's Suspicious Minds. We also had the pleasure of experiencing the Stevie Izeri rock show, which included cue cards, a megaphone, sparklers, and yes, more leather pants. The Feds kicked it with an acoustic piano, and the Slow Learners got crazy. Adams Morgan is a great town, and aside from D.C.'s parking famine, we can't wait to get back. See you at the shows.
Summer time - June 3, 2006
We are still at work on the new BUB cd. We were most recently visited in the studio by our good, talented friend, Bill Jameson, who added some mandolin to the mix. Thank you Mr. Whiskey. We are not yet finished tracking, but still plan to be finished with the project in the fall. The Brass Uncle Band is currently accepting ideas for album's art work, so let us know what you think. (we are not responsible for your twisted suggestions, but we are looking forward to reading them.)
There are also some great shows on the horizon, so if its been a while since your last BUB outing, there is alot to look forward to. The Cheaters CD release party at the 8x10 on July 21st will be a truly rock & roll event. The Brass Uncle Band is also working on setting up a show with the Crawford boys, featuring Tim Byrne and the Crackpot bassist. The are calling themselves Thursday Night Special, and they are bringing down the rafters. We will try not to be strangers.
